Talk Radio Kills

Do we have to go through this again?  Remember back in 1994 after the Oklahoma City bombing when Bill Clinton blamed talk radio for this act of terrorism?  Well, it seems the press is jumping on board for this go around.  Check out this article from the Knoxville News.  The headline states all the biased you need for the day:

Bill O’Reilly, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity on accused shooter’s reading list

Then this from the article:

Inside the house, officers found “Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder” by radio talk show host Michael Savage, “Let Freedom Ring” by talk show host Sean Hannity, and “The O’Reilly Factor,” by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly.

You know, I’m not a fan of any of those guys but still, come on!!  It’s quite funny that there are still people out there who don’t believe the majority of the media is biased towards Liberals.   Do we really need to know what books were in his house and the specific authors?  What a load of BS.  It’s yet another attempt to blame everyone BUT the person who pulled the trigger.

Can we get a moratorium on the blame game, especially the “Conservative talk radio is hate speech” kind?

I think it is funny (odd) that people will look at the shooters reading list when it suits what they want to push. BUT, when anyone tried to make a link between violent song lyrics that the Columbine shooters had been listening to, that theory was quickly dismissed?

  2. Jonathan Says:

I don’t know. Obviously, the shooter is to blame, but this does seem to be another unfortunate (extreme and thankfully rare) consequence of the way both sides treat the other as despised enemies rather than fellow countrymen who ultimately share a common goal.

To quote Kolby “correlation does not equal causation.”

The left pretty much hates and despises Bush with such venom that it all but seeps from their pours but I don’t see them offing other people.

  4. Angry D. Says:

So this guy only had three books, huh?

I wonder, did he have a newspaper subscription?

    Internet access?

A friggin’ copy of the Unabomber’s Manifesto?

Those are the ONLY three books he was exposed to in his entire life, huh? No one found a copy of “Fox in Socks” hidden in his wall safe, or a Hustler magazine in his bedroom?

Okay, I need to let you into my private world for a moment. In another time and place I’m a football coach (and a damn good one, thank you.) We have an acronym we use when an athlete we’re scouting who is supposed to be a game-breaker turns out to be a dud in some manner. We call that an “NF.”

    Non Factor.

PS: Some jackass moonbat accused the “CrushLiberalism” blogger of causing this shooting, too. Every time I ask the question, “How dumb ARE these people?” I get answered.

Different people express their contempt in different ways. Obviously, this guy’s method was wildly inappropriate.

It would be better if we didn’t treat people with whom we disagree as contemptible. By calling them childish names, for example.

    Fox News:

  7. Roland Says:

Carson, for one thing, yeah Fox does lean to the right but they are pretty much the only major network that does. On the other side you have CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN and on and on and it’s been that way for DECADES.

What is really amusing is when people cite Hannidy or O’Reilly about things. Um..they are NOT news hosts. They are commentators. It is very difficult to come up with specific examples where Fox NEWS has been biased.

  8. Angry D. Says:

I don’t agree with you, Jonathan. I’m with you in spirit, but when I look at reality, I see very little in the liberal philosophy that’s worth anything OTHER than a contemptible name.

Liberals weaken every aspect of this country, from the economy (with their “save the gay baby whales” environmental hokum that interferes with free trade) to national defense (between amnesty for illegal immigrants who drain our national resources to outright undercutting the American Armed Forces in harms way by protesting their actions, I don’t know which is worse.)

That convoluted sentence can be boiled down to this: when liberals do something that DOESN’T merit my contempt they will get something BESIDES my contempt.

Until then, words like “jackasses” and “moonbats” accurately describe a class of people who want YOU to change everything you do, from where you shop (Wal-Mart) to what you drive (hybrid) but RARELY ever change anything themselves. In my experience, liberals are uniformly hypocrites (Al Gore’s carbon footprint, Sean Penn’s “peaceful” stance that involves assaulting reporters, etc.)

Rough language? Perhaps, but hey, Betty Williams won a Nobel Peace prize and then told the press she wanted to murder the president. I don’t want anyone dead. I want them forcibly removed from the country they don’t appreciate and refuse to protect or encourage, so I guess I’m still morally superior to her.

    Angry D,

I think there probably isn’t any point in continuing a conversation when you can’t respect me enough not to call me names and when you think such a ridiculously absolute statement as “Liberals weaken every aspect of this country…” is justifiable.

  10. AvaP. Says:

Jonathan, Ok So maybe Angry D is to harsh for your blood ( personally I think I have a little crush? hehehe) . But please tell me, how is it that policy that is traditionally Liberal, strenghtens economy? family? Small business (which is the BACKBONE of America) schools ( which are gvmt run and crap) ect…..I just don’t see it? They want to mandate everything! Now they are telling us that we have to wear seatbelts and helmets and support everyone and everything! They are so big on “Choice” when it comes to an unwanted baby but not ANYTHING else. Because they think the gvmt knows what is good for all of us? Just trying to understand, man.

  11. Jonathan Says:

I realize that many believe that the government and especially liberal policies do little if any good. I would agree that the government often mucks things up and doesn’t keep its promises. But I do not agree that traditional liberal policies like providing a social safety net, protecting the environment from exploitation, ensuring equality and equal rights, etc…though admittedly imperfect in execution…only weaken our country.

  12. Roland Says:

The fact is Jonathan, any private run business can run things better than Govco. Govco cannot run things well. Plus, that is not what our founders had in mind. LESS Govco is what is needed, not more.

  13. Jonathan Says:

In general terms I think you may be right and that a better role of government is probably more on the periphery to check the excesses of the market, individual liberty, etc.
