Real Life = Movies

July 27, 2009

Ok, it’s high time we got a moratorium on movies based on real life events.  Now, I am not saying never make a movie about an event that really happened but, please, can we at least wait?  These days, something happens and within six months (or less) there is a movie on TV about it.  Come on!!  All the facts aren’t even in yet by that time and they are already making conclusions about it?  That’s Hollywood for ya though – don’t let facts get in the way.

How about five years?  That is enough time to get as much straight as you can.  Plus, it’s still not fresh in every ones mind so it will actually be something that you would enjoy seeing.  Do you really get as much a kick out of a picture from your vacation when you look at it while still on vacation or when you look at it years later and reflect on the great time you had?

Original?

January 18, 2009

I wrote about this topic almost two years ago.  The fact that Hollywood has lost all originality.  Have you noticed that most of the movies they make these days are remakes?  Not just remakes of old movies but relatively new ones as well.  They are actually remaking the Karate Kid now!!  That’s why we don’t really go see movies much anymore and the ones we rent are usually “B” movies or independent films that are original.

Even TV shows can’t really be original anymore.  Most of the time they are just copying off British shows.  Take all these so called great shows such as All in the Family, The Office (which I actually enjoy), Too Close for Comfort, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Three’s Company, Sanford And Son, American Idol…and the list goes on…all taken from successful British shows.  Where has creativity gone?

Thankfully, some shows such as Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and 30 Rock are funny AND original (please don’t spoil it and tell me one of these is a rip off).  Except for Seinfeld, I think the reason these are/were great shows is not only because they have great writing and are funny but because they don’t have a laugh track.  Who wants to hear canned laughter about a joke that’s not even funny???

Anyway, can we please get more creative, original people in Hollywood and get a moratorium on remakes?

Gay Marriage

November 16, 2008

You know, I am not for gay marriage however I also don’t think that Govco needs to be involved in marriage period.  I am not for any sort of amendment for or against gay marriage.  In fact, I don’t think Govco should be in the business licensing marriage at all.  Stay out of my bedroom and out of my life!

That being said, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick and tired of hearing the whining, bitching and moaning from all of Hollywood on the new Proposition 8 ban against gay marriage that was passed, BY THE VOTERS, this month.  Here are some winner quotes:

Penn:  “It was a shameful decision that was made.”

Ethridge “I am not a full citizen.”

Aguilera: “I don’t understand how people can be so closed-minded and so judgmental. We chose an African-American president who means so much in a time in history of great change and open-mindedness. Why is this any different?”    [I wonder if she even voted]

Hey!  The people have spoken!  Deal with it!!  You can’t have it both ways (although, I am sure many in Hollywood like it that way but, hey, I don’t get into peoples bedrooms).  Either you support the democratic process that gave the White House to Obama, for example, or you don’t.   These are the same Hollywood idiots like Sheryl Crow and the Dixie Chicks who cry about censorship and shout about freedom of speech.  Well, welcome to democracy.  Sometimes you don’t get everything you want.

Can we get a moratorium on Hollywood for, say 20 years?  Not on the movies or TV shows but just on celebrities opening their mouths off screen.
